VWFA is pleased to introduce our new Project Gallery, a second space at our premises in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. The Project Gallery aims to encourage the development of new work by emerging artists from Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region, covering a broad spectrum of video, mixed media, photography, painting, drawing, sculptural objects and site-specific installations. We will be running a programme of commissioned projects, as well as small-scale exhibitions, screenings and performances.
Short Short Stories by Ugo Untoro will be our first Project Gallery exhibition. Ugo Untoro (b. 1970, Purbalingga, Central Java) graduated from Indonesia Institute of Art (ISI) and is based in Yogyakarta, exhibiting widely in Indonesia and beyond over the past ten years. His singular, poetic vision is rooted in what he calls a tradition of "corat-coret", or "casual drawing". Short Short Stories brings together small drawings, sculptures, dioramas, sketchbooks and a collection of brief text narratives, in an intimate exploration of anecdotes and signs couched in our experience of the everyday.
